Practice Profile
Rick Hurley is returning to the Tampa Bay area after maintaining a law firm in New Jersey and New York City for the past twenty-five years; where he specialized in civil, family and criminal litigation.   A graduate of Tampa Jesuit High School (1977), he received his B.A. from FSU (1981), and his J.D. from Seton Hall University Law Center (1984).

Upon graduating from law school, he accepted a New Jersey Judicial Law Clerk position with The Honorable John M. Boyle, J.S.C.  During this clerkship, he assisted The Honorable Lenny Sakor, J.S.C. the Presiding Family Law Judge, and Cuddie E. Davidson J.S.C. the Presiding Criminal Law Judge with their case loads as well.   His Judicial Law Clerk experience helped Rick develop a general civil litigation practice involving personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, products liability, construction disputes, and commercial disputes.  Rick has significant experience in family and criminal law matters as well.  Throughout his practice, he participated in the mediation process both as a mediator and an advocate.

In addition to his trial work, Rick served as an Adjunct Professor at Raritan Valley Community College teaching Business Law.  He was an active member of the NJ State Bar Association, and the Somerset and Hunterdon County Bar Associations, serving as an officer for  these associations and chairing various committees.   He became President of the Somerset County Bar Association in 1997.

Rick  returned to Tampa to develop a mediation practice focusing his efforts on alternative dispute resolutions.  He completed the University of South Florida Circuit Civil and Family Mediation Programs.  He firmly believes mediation plays an essential role in the judicial system, and it helps alleviate the emotional and financial stress associated with litigation on litigants and their attorneys. Rick is a proponent of mediation, and he maintains, “How can you afford not to mediate?”
